How do you like your dildos? Firm? Or soft? Both, you say? Then you’ll love a dual-density dildo. Triple D, baby!

Dual-density, or dual-layer, provides a realistic feel of flesh, and it can feel terrific.

But what is a dual-density dildo, and what are the best ones? If you’re new to this, you may not know the ins and outs of dual-layer dildos. I’m here to help.

I’ll be looking at what these dildos are, what the best ones are, and what types of dildos you should avoid.

So, let’s get into it.

What is a Dual Density Dildo?

A dual-layer dildo has two (surprising, I know,) layers. On the inside, it’s firm so that the dildo won’t flop around like a wavy tube man.

The outer layer, meanwhile, has fleshy softness. The goal is to make a dildo that feels just like an erect penis. Depending on which dildo you get, it will accomplish that goal pretty well

Dual-density dildos are appealing because they feel realistic and are a happy medium between being too firm and too soft.

They can be more bendable but rigid enough to take all the way!

What is the Difference Between Dual Density and Single Density Dildos?

The difference is simple: dual density is firm, yet soft. Meanwhile, a single-density dildo is either firm, soft or in between.

Examples of a single-density dildo include a firm glass dildo, a floppy jelly dildo that bends easily, or a medium-firm dildo that is just as firm on the inside as the outside.

How to Choose the Best Dual Density Dildo

While dual-density dildos share a similar composition, they can also differ in certain aspects.

These differences can make or break what dildo you choose.

Let’s look at some factors that you may consider when selecting a dual-density dildo.

Firmness

While these toys will have a similar firmness, some will lean on the harder or softer side overall.

For example, the soft layer may be thinner or thicker, depending on what dildo you buy. These toys usually have a firmness scale on the box or the product page.

Cost

What is your budget? Dual-density dildos come at various prices, from being on the cheaper end to being a little more luxurious.

Many dual-density dildos, because of their composition, will be fairly expensive. Expect to pay $100 or possibly more.

That being said, cheaper dildos do exist.

Materials

Dual-density toys can be made from several materials, mainly silicone. Silicone is your best choice, as it’s non-porous.

However, some toys are made from more porous materials, such as TPE.

You should generally avoid these, but they may have a feature you can’t miss. In that case, use a condom to prevent the spread of germs.

All of the dildos in this article are made from body-safe silicone.

Vibration Function

Some dual-density toys are also vibrators, which add a new layer of pleasure to your toys.

In that case, there are sub-categories you may look for as well.

You may choose a vibrator based on type, waterproof level, or type of batteries used.

Reviews

Finally, what is everyone else saying about the toy? On the product page, you may find reviews that tell you the good and the bad of a toy.

If you don’t see any, check out the other products by the manufacturer.

1. Lovehoney Dual-Density Silicone Dildo – Best Overall

In these articles, the number-one dildo is always the crowd-pleaser. It’s a great introductory toy, but also works well for experienced users.

The pick is not cheap, but not too expensive, either. And this dildo from Lovehoney has it all. First, the dildo is made from silicone, so it’s completely safe for you to use.

Just wash it off with soap and water, and it’s good to go next time. The materials are soft, yet firm, and have balls as well.

The toy isn’t the most hyper-realistic cock out there, but for the price, it’s pretty high quality. Oh, and it has a suction cup, so solo or strap-on play is a cinch.

So, what do the reviews say? Overall, the toy has a very positive reception. One reviewer said the toy is the “Perfect size to fill me up,” which makes it seem like a truck needing gas.

But yes, at 8 inches, there’s plenty to go around.

There aren’t too many critical reviews. Some say the toy is a bit too big, or that it’s a bit too firm. And there’s only a single 1-star review.

The review has a title of “not impressed.” The review itself says “not impressed.” Something tells me the reviewer isn’t impressed!

Overall, this dildo should please most people. It’s a good value, big enough, and has balls, too!

The price is decent as well, much less expensive than the other products I’ll be looking at. But while the dildo is affordable, it’s no slouch.

Pros

  • Decently priced.
  • Realistic balls.
  • The suction cup lets you go solo!

Cons

  • It may be a bit too basic for some.

2. King Cock Elite 6” – Best Vibrator

The next dildo on this list is another realistic dick but with a twist! This dildo can vibrate!

But before we talk about that, let’s look at the design. It’s pretty realistic, with veins and a bumpy texture.

But it has no balls; just a suction cup! The King Cock Elite 6” can vibrate, with three speeds and seven functions.

Just push the button near the shaft and it will do its stuff. The toy is also waterproof, so bring it into the bath or shower. Once you’re done, plug in the cock with its USB magnetic charging.

This particular dildo doesn’t have any reviews, but its 8” companion on Lovehoney does. One review called “KING DONG CHALLENGE WOW” says, “My wife says she can’t tell the difference between my cock & this for real feel, obviously it’s bigger than me ;o)”

I feel like your wife is just being nice to you, but that’s great praise. Negative reviews say the dildo isn’t soft enough, or it’s too big.

I say, for me, the biggest complaint is the lack of any remote to control the vibrations.

Overall, this dildo is the perfect vibrator if you want something with a realistic design.

I’ll be looking at another vibrator later on (spoiler alert) that has more of a “Toy” look to it, so keep that in mind.

Pros

  • Waterproof.
  • USB-rechargeable.
  • Realistic.

Cons

  • It needs a remote!

3. Horus Lupercal XL 9” – Best Big Dual Density Dildo

What if you have looked at the first two and said, “They look great, but I want something bigger?”

Then this dildo is for you. The Horus Lupercal is a flexible, realistic dildo, yet firm. The veins, bumps, and head all look pretty realistic. And this toy is big!

The full length is a footlong, with nine insertable inches and a 2.28” insertable width. This width is nearly as long as a soda can.

Even the description says, “This is a very large toy. Be sure you understand the measurements before ordering.”

That description feels unnecessary, but I’ve read reviews! I’ve seen how many times someone gives a big dildo a one-star review for being too big.

Speaking of reviews, this dildo has yet to be reviewed. However, other products from its maker, Pleasure Engine, have gotten rave reviews.

So I’d say check this out. My only complaint is that the toy is pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Overall, this dildo is terrific if you like it big. I will say, if you’re new to sex toys, don’t bite off more than you can chew.

Start basic; six inches usually works, then move your way up. However, if you’re experienced or you can naturally fit big toys inside, I’d recommend giving this toy a try.

Pros

  • Big and thick.
  • Made from premium silicone.
  • Very bendable, too.

Cons

  • A bit pricey.

4. Uncut #1 – Best Uncut Dildo

This dual-density dildo has one gimmick: it’s uncut. The head has a foreskin on it, adding unique texture and also being fun to stretch!

Tantus themselves are known for high-quality toys made from ultra-premium silicone, which is bacteria-resistant.

Reviews of the Uncut are very positive. One reviewer says it’s “The best thing I ever had in my ass.” That’s high praise right there!

The most negative review said the toy was too long. See what I mean about people not reading the description?

The dildo is 8.75 insertable inches, so it is big. But also, you don’t need to take it all!

If I had one downside, the toy is more challenging to clean than other silicone toys. The description says you should boil or use a dishwasher to ensure every part is thoroughly cleaned.

This reason is due to its texture. Which, okay, putting a dildo in the dishwasher isn’t hard. But what if you have nosy roommates in a shared kitchen?

Overall, this toy is great if you like it uncut. I feel like more toys should represent the uncut penises of the world. It’s natural, and natural is good!

Pros

  • Uncut head.
  • Long.
  • Made from Tantus’s premium silicone.

Cons

  • To fully clean, you need to use a dishwasher or boil the toy.

5. Happy Rabbit – Best Rabbit Vibrator

Finally, we end things off with the Happy Rabbit. Rabbit vibrators are great if you have a clitoris that needs a little love, too.

This rabbit vibrator is a bright color but has a realistically textured head.

In fact, the dildo itself is very luxurious. The silicone is high-quality, and it has a whopping 15 functions, including three for the rabbit ears themselves.

Like any good modern-day toy, the dildo is USB-rechargeable and fully waterproof.

Another good feature the dildo has is the travel lock. This lock ensures the dildo won’t turn on when you’re rushing to catch your flight.

Also, at six insertable inches, the toy should please most. Not too big, but not too small, either.

So, what do the reviews say? One says the toy gives you an “Orgasm in under 5 minutes every time.” It’s like how Domino’s used to promise delivery in under 30 minutes!

Negative reviews usually deal with subjective things, like being too big or heavy. One review did say the dildo stopped working.

However, this is always going to happen to one unlucky soul when they buy a vibrator.

If I have one complaint, it’s once again the lack of a remote. It has a lot of functions, but if you click too fast and skip the function you want, you have to cycle all over again.

I wouldn’t mind this too much if the dildo weren’t expensive. Come on! Throw in a remote for that price!

Overall, this rabbit vibrator is excellent if you want a dual-density vibe that can hit all of your spots perfectly. I was amazed at how it felt, how many functions it had, and how nice it looked.

Pros

  • 15 functions.
  • Waterproof and rechargeable.
  • Luxurious silicone.

Cons

  • For the price, why didn’t they include a remote?

Dual-Density Dildos to Avoid for Safety

One thing I’m firm (no pun intended) on is avoiding dildos that pose a safety risk. Let’s talk about safety.

First, the materials.

In these articles, I try my best to choose dildos made from silicone, metal, glass, or other non-porous materials.

If I must choose a dildo that’s porous, I will tell you. Porous dildos are made from materials that absorb bacteria.

Because of this, they are difficult to clean fully. Meanwhile, most non-porous dildos take only a few seconds to sanitize.

Porous materials can include “Ultraskyn,” used in some products, “TPE,” “Soft plastic,” pretty much anything that’s not silicone.

Each product will have a section on its page that tells what materials the toy is made from. If you’re unsure, do some research.

Another safety tip is to use lots of lube, preferably water. Water-based lubes are safe for silicone dildos. Prepping by lubing up can avoid pain. If you feel pain, remove the dildo immediately.

Also, don’t bite off more than you can chew. You can look at the measurements and then decide if the dildo is right for you or not.

Finally, read up on any safety tips that may be included in the manual. If you have a unique dildo, there may be equally unique safety tips that you should follow. Reading is good, so read up.

Tips for Care and Maintenance

Before we go, I wanted to give you some tips on taking care of your dildos.

Wash After Every Use and Store Properly

Common sense. Sanitize your dildo with mild soap and warm water, or use antibacterial toy cleaner.

Some toys, like the Uncut dildo I mentioned earlier, may need a little more TLC. Boiling or putting the toy in the dishwasher can sanitize the dildo quite well.

Once your toy has been cleaned and dried, you should put it in a silk bag and store it in a cool, dry place.

Many dildos include a silk bag, but if they don’t, you can easily order one from Amazon or the store of your choosing.

Don’t Mix Silicone Lubes With Silicone Dildos

Silicone-based lubes are great when you don’t want to reapply frequently. However, they can damage silicone toys.

Use a water-based lube. Hybrid lubes, which combine water and silicone, can also work. Silicone lubes work well for glass or metal dildos, so use them there.

Charge Frequently and Check Waterproof Levels

If you have a vibrator, be sure to charge the toy frequently to preserve its battery life. Also, if it’s a vibrator, you’ll want to check the waterproof levels.

Most waterproof vibrators will be IPX7, which means they can handle a meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

But some vibrators are “Splashproof,” which means you do not want to submerge them.

Follow Instructions

Depending on the toy you buy, there may be unique care instructions. Always follow them to ensure your dildo lasts as long as possible!

Most dildos should have a care instructions page in their manual. If not, do some research through Google.

See if There’s a Warranty

Finally, if you have a dildo, check its warranty. The warranty should protect you if something happens.

For example, if your vibrator suddenly stops working, you can get one replaced for free as long as it’s under warranty.

These safety tips will ensure your dildos will stay clean and fresh for a long time.
